Wrongful Death – Recent Recoveries

Death of county jail inmate for denial of health care while incarcerated. Decedent was a known diabetic and held in county jail for the misdemeanor charge of wrongly taking and hooking up electricity for his family. Jail personnel and consulting physician failed to provide insulin treatment. Decedent suffered from vomiting and dehydration prior to his death. Settlement of $300,000 as to all defendants for the decedent’s estate. – KS.

Prison inmate death resulted from the institution’s indifference to his serious medical needs.Plaintiff complained for nearly a year about severe abdominal pain, dramatic weight loss, and an inability to consume solid food for often 3-4 days at a time. The defendant’s omission in providing adequate, emergency medical care caused the plaintiff to suffer and ultimately contributed to the plaintiff’s death within 24 hours of the facility finally calling for an ambulance to take the plaintiff to the hospital. Settlement was achieved for $210,000 on the event of a federal trial to commence days later. – JM.
