- From 2001 to 2009, the rate of ER visits for those under the age of 20 that were caused by concussions/head injuries sustained while playing sports increased by 57%

It should be noted that brain injuries are not always easy to detect. Occasionally changes, like depression or confusion, can develop over time after a mild brain injury.
