Two Car Wrecks on Interstate 64 in Illinois Cause Six to Be Injured

On 02/22/2024 there were two different car wrecks on the westbound side of Interstate 64 at mile marker 59 in Washington County, Illinois. The first vehicle crash occurred about 3:36 p.m. when a Toyota Camry was merging onto the highway. The wheels suddenly locked up on the car during the merge, and the driver lost control. The Camry veered off onto the right side of the road, rolled over multiple times and came to rest in a field of corn. Luckily, nobody was hurt during from this wreck

Soon after the first accident, there was a second and more serious wreck in the same location. Around 4:00 p.m., traffic had slowed due to the previous crash. A pickup truck did not stop soon enough and collided with a minivan from behind.

This second accident caused injuries. The driver and passenger of the pick-up truck and the motorist and three passengers from the minivan were injured. Emergency responders came to the area and took all involved in the rear-end accident to an area hospital for treatment. At this time, the severity of the injuries has not been shared publicly, and the authorities have not released the names of those who were involved. Based on current information, it appears the driver of the pickup truck is responsible for causing the second wreck

Collisions Happen Often and What You Can Do If You’re Injured

Crashes such as those which occurred on I-64 this past Sunday are a sad norm on Illinois roads. Interstate wrecks accounts for a high percentage of traffic incidents. Such incidents mostly result when drivers are distracted, speeding, or not observing altered road conditions.

When a driver on an Interstate is not acting reasonably it can result in serious injuries, such as brain damage, paralysis, organ injuries, fractures and death. These injuries can often have permanent or long-term effects. Even if the cars involved are not moving at very high speeds, the physics behind a sudden impact, especially one involving large vehicles, can cause catastrophic injuries.

If you are hurt from the fault of someone else, you can obtain compensation for your injuries. This compensation will be paid to cover medical expenses, lost income, pain & suffering, and the expense of future treatment if required. People who are injured can make a claim against the at-fault driver’s insurance policy to assist with these costs and may also be able to pursue compensation from your own car insurance if the at-fault driver was insufficiently insured. Illinois requires all motorists to have minimum liability insurance, which is intended to pay for the harm and damage inflicted on others in an accident, but this minimum coverage does not often cover all the damages incurred.

To support a strong claim, it’s important to take action quickly. Key steps include:

  • Getting medical treatment right away
  • Requesting a copy of the police report
  • Taking photos of the crash scene and vehicle damage
  • Getting witness statements, if possible

Other consideration to take into account is the insurance companies involved in a wreck try to minimize the injury or avoid liability however possible. That’s why having a skilled car accident lawyer on your side is especially helpful. They understand how to get the proper evidence and fight unfair strategies.
