While blind spot detection systems can reduce the incidence of these accidents, diligent motorists who check their blind spots can be just as effective.
While blind spot detection systems can reduce the incidence of these accidents, diligent motorists who check their blind spots can be just as effective.

Continuing from 5 Things to Know about Blind Spot Car Accidents (Part 1), the following discusses three more essential things that motorists should know about blind spot accidents.

  1. New technology is attempting to reduce blind spot accidents – Blind spot detection systems are among the latest advances to crash avoidance systems that are now available features on newer vehicles. These systems use cameras, radar or other means to determine when there is an object in a vehicle’s blind spot; when a determination is made that something is in a car’s blind spot, these systems may either sound a warning signal to alert drivers or automatically steer the car to prevent it from veering into the object in the blind spot area.
  2. Careless driving is still the most common cause of blind spot accidents – Although new technologies can be helpful in helping drivers avoid hitting other cars or people in their blind spots, the traditional method of checking blind spots by turning one’s head a looking over each shoulder is still an effective way to determine whether anyone (or thing) is in the blind spot. When drivers get careless (because, for example, they are drunk or distracted), they are far less likely to be diligent about checking their blind spots, and consequently, they are far more likely to cause these traffic accidents.
  3. When negligence causes blind spot accidents, injured people will likely be entitled to compensation – The single most important thing you need to know about blind spot accidents is that anytime negligence plays a role in causing these accidents, the victims of these accidents can obtain the compensation they need and deserve by working with an experienced accident attorney.
