A 36-year-old is currently in custody on a $75,000 bond after allegedly hitting an 8-year-old girl with his Geo Prism and then leaving the scene of the accident. The man, who is facing felony criminal charges of leaving the scene of an accident that caused injury or death and careless driving, may also be facing a civil lawsuit from the girl’s family if they choose to hold the man responsible for the girl’s injuries, losses, and mental anguish by filing a car accident lawsuit against him. If the girl’s family choose to file such a lawsuit against the man, the evidence in and outcome of the criminal case (as well as the police report) could prove to be essential evidence in the civil case and could be crucial to helping them secure the maximum possible compensation for their child’s severe injuries.
According to the police report for the case, the girl had been crossing the street when the suspect’s vehicle allegedly plowed into. A 42-year-old woman who had been walking her dogs at the time of the accident witnessed the hit-and-run car accident and told police that she had seen the girl roll off the top of the car and fall on her head while the car sped off. Shortly after the accident, Chicago police spotted the vehicle speeding, pulled over the driver and arrested him as a suspect in the hit-and-run accident.
