An early morning accident on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, on Illinois Route 127 north of Alto Pass became fatal, claiming one life. There were also three other persons seriously injured from this wreck. The Illinois State Police reported that this fatal car accident took place around 7:44 a.m. in the vicinity of Geothermal Lane, between Murphysboro and Alto Pass.
Initial reports indicate that a northbound car crossed the centerline of the highway and crashed head-on with a southbound vehicle. Unfortunately, the driver of the northbound car was declared dead at the scene. One passenger from the same car sustained injuries and was taken to an area hospital for treatment.
The southbound vehicle occupants, a driver and a passenger, also were injured and were taken to the hospital. Their conditions at this moment have not been made public. The collision closed Illinois Route 127 for several hours as law officers compleeted extensive investigations. They diverted traffic, and the highway opened back up at approximately 12:38 p.m.
