Last year, about 3 million Americans working in the private sector sustained a nonfatal job-related injury, according to a recent report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).
While this marked about 57,000 fewer work-related injuries last year (when compared to the numbers from 2013), it also continues the 12-year downward trend in work injuries in the U.S. (with 2012 being the only exception).
In addition to reporting on the ongoing decline in nonfatal work injuries in the U.S., the BLS report also noted that, in 2014:
Remarking on the BLS report’s findings, OSHA’s Assistant Secretary of Labor, Dr. David Michaels, has stated:
[This] report shows that too many workers are still being injured or sickened on the job. Every year, millions of workers are injured at work and that is simply unacceptable. We must redouble our efforts to make sure that employers provide workers with the protections and training they deserve.
