Not riding when the roads are icy and properly maintain a motorcycle are two things riders can do to reduce their risk of motorcycle accidents and, in turn, save lives.

Concluding the two-part blog 6 Motorcycle Riding Safety Tips That Save Lives, the following discusses three additional tips that all riders should remember and following when riding on their motorcycles. Making it a habit to practice these motorcycle riding safety tips can not only reduce their chances of getting into accidents, but it can also save riders’ lives.

  • Motorcycle riding safety tip #4 – Avoid riding when the roads are icy: Whether or not riders are able to see the ice on the roads, the fact is that icy roads make it extremely difficult to stop and generally control a motorcycle. What can further complicate riding when the roads are icy is that other drivers in larger, heavier cars will also have a more difficult time controlling (and stopping) their vehicles; this means that riders could easily be hit by other motorists at intersections, on/off ramps or any other point where traffic coalesces.

Given this risk, riders should avoid riding motorcycles in such hazardous conditions because even a seemingly minor collision with a larger vehicle could result in serious – potentially fatal – injuries to riders.

  • Motorcycle riding safety tip #5 – Obey all traffic laws: While it may be thrilling to go fast, run red lights or otherwise violate traffic laws when riding motorcycles, riders should always obey the law when riding. This is because other motorists in larger vehicles often don’t look for or see riders so, when riders choose to violate traffic laws, they are putting themselves at a significant risk of being hit by other drivers.

  • Motorcycle riding safety tip #6 – Keep your motorcycle well maintained: Making sure that all parts and systems of a motorcycle are well maintained is crucial to ensuring that a particular bike will run as it should while it is being ridden. This means that riders should get their motorcycles regularly serviced, should regularly replace the tires on their bikes, should comply with the appropriate service when parts on their motorcycles are recalled, etc.
