Having items that will keep you warm if your vehicle breaks down are essential components of comprehensive winter safety kits.

Picking up from Preparing Winter Safety Kits for Your Car (Part 1), here are some more details regarding the specific types of items that are important to keep in winter safety kits for all of your family’s vehicles. By having such kits handy if or when your car breaks down in the wintertime, you can ensure that your family will be safe while they attempt to get the vehicle running again or while they wait for help.

Winter Safety Kit Essentials: Items to Keep You Safe and Warm

If you are unable to get your vehicle free from snow and/or back on the road, then you will need some things that can help you and your passengers safely await help. To this end, some essential items will include the following:

  • A blanket, extra hats, extra gloves, an extra jacket and other items that can help you and your passengers stay warm (especially if you can’t run the heater on your car and/or you have to wait for more than an hour)
  • A track phone, an extra cellphone charger and possibly even an extra cellphone battery so you can call for help if you are stranded somewhere where there are not any callboxes or other means of calling for help
  • A gallon of water, energy bars, dried fruit, canned goods and other nonperishable items that can provide sustenance if you have to wait for help for more than a few hours
  • A roll of paper towels, duct tape, a hammer, magazines, travel games, etc. – These miscellaneous items, which are more optional than the other items, may come in handy, depending on the reasons that your car has broken down and how long you may have to wait for help.
